Claims technology cheaper

BOLLYWOOD has released the first film in HD technology which it claims will cut costs. Hindi film ‘Dharam’ which was shown off at Cannes used a high-end video camera which was expensive camera and hard to find in India.

S Nallamuthu, the film’s photography director said that despite the limited facilities available for post-production and conversion, the format can drastically cut down costs and act as an effective counter for piracy.

The film got a lot of attention at Cannes because of its technology. He was able to do a lot of the editing in the camera and could cut down on the number of retakes required.

Most theatres in India do not have digital projection systems, the digital shots have to be transferred to film by using a film recorder that will print digital image data to film and create a 35mm negative.

Out of the several mainstream Hollywood films that have been shot on HD include blockbusters like ‘Star Wars Episode,’ ‘Collateral,’ ‘Superman Returns’ and ‘Apocalypto’.

INDIAN movie star Shilpa Shetty didn’t end up shimmying into the Big Brother house, but producers last night went ahead with the Bollywood task originally planned to coincide with her arrival.

Shetty - famous for winning Celebrity Big Brother in Britain amid a racism controversy - was supposed to produce a ratings spark for the Channel 10 series by her surprise guest role.

The actress confirmed it on her recent trip to Oz, but in a likely sign the deal has failed, inmates in the Dreamworld compound were last night asked to create their own Bollywood musical.

Miss England winner Eleanor Glynn to star in a Bollywood film.She has been selected to play a keen role in the musical ‘India Rocks’, a movie directed by Aditya Raj Kapoor.

Glynn,who has 21, from Sandford-on-Thames, said she was delighted to have won one of the lead roles in the movie. Filming is due to start in London later this month, shortly before she hands over her Miss England crown.

She will star alongside Mimoh Chakraborty, son of popular actor Mithun Chakraborty. Glynn told the Oxford Mail that she was thrilled to get the lead role in the film.

In January, Glynn was put on the standby to take part in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, but had second thoughts following Shilpa Shetty’s bullying by housemate Jade Goody.

Last year, Glynn took part in a Bollywood dancing exhibition, then met a series of Bollywood film directors to discuss the possibility of appearing in a movie.

She said at the time: “I think there is definitely a gap in the market for a British girl meeting an Asian guy in one of these films and we’ll see what happens”.

Miss England organiser Angie Beasley said: “I think this could be the start of a great career for Eleanor. She loves Bollywood dancing and will be performing a Bollywood dance at the national final of Miss England in Leicester on June 30, when she hands over her crown”.

‘Eleanor is not a prima donna - she fits in with people from all walks of life. I wish we could give her a special award because she has been the best Miss England we have ever had.’

Earlier this year, Glynn, who has appeared in the Miss World and Miss Europe competitions, told how she was rejected by three top model agencies - because she was ‘too large’ at size 10.

Glynn - who is 5-feet, 9 inches tall and weighs eight-and-a-half stone - gave a talk at the Oxford Union about her experience and the urged young models not to go on crash diets.
