Tanushree Dutta was born and raised in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand state (then Bihar), and did her graduation in communications in Pune, Maharashtra.
Tanushree Dutta was placed among the top ten in the Miss Universe contest of 2004.
Tanushree Dutta debuted in Bollywood in 2005. Tanushree Dutta worked on two films together Chocolate and Aashiq Banaya Apne. Chocolate was intended to be Tanushree Dutta’s debut film, however its release was preceded by Aashiq Banaya Apne, which led to differences with the Chocolate director Vivek Agnihotri.
Tanushree Dutta, a dusky B Com second year student from Pune University, bagged the coveted crown amidst stiff competition from 29 contestants who were chosen from about 6,000 girls from all over the country.
Tanushree Dutta’s reply to actor Sanjay Dutt’s question in the final round, whether there was a healthy competition when only one wins, won her the crown.
The audience broke into applause when Tanushree Dutta replied, “When there is unhealthy competition everybody is a loser.”
